๐ Audi 8 Speed Tiptronic Vs S Tronic
8speed is 8 speed automatic with a torque converter (Tiptronic) CVT actually has no speeds. It is continuously variable transmission. DSG shifts much quicker. It has a shaft with the odd gears and a shaft with the even. 8 speed can't handle quite as much power as the 6 speed CVT can't handle any power, but gets good mileage.

I*thought* DSG and S-tronic were different names of the same thing, but the DSG in my 2015 GSW (TDI) and the S-tronic in my A3 (1.4T) are VASTLY different. The DSG seems to take forever to switch gears, particularly at in-town speeds (<70km/h or 40mph) compared to the S-tronic, which always feels instantaneous.
Forexample, as used by Audi, a five-speed Tiptronic will make the upshifts from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 automatically when moving off from a stop even when in manual mode; the transmission then waits for the user's upshift command before proceeding from 3 to 4 and 4 to 5, although the transmission will still upshift if the redline is approached. Asa car enthusiast, owner of 2014 A5 2.0T 8AT conventional torque converter automatic (USA model), and an engineer myself (but aerospace, not automotive) I am very curious about Audi's evolving automatic transmission philosophy. When my car was new, the A4/A5 2.0T automatic in quattro models in USA was the ZF 8-speed, and the faster

AudiA5 / S5 / RS5 Coupe & Cabrio (B8) - 6 speed vs 8 speed transmission - I am currently looking at a 2010 A5 automatic premium plus vehicle, but was told to wait for the 2011 A5 with the new transmission. I will be more interested in the S-tronic than the 8-speed automatic. I would get 2010 MY. Reply Like 07-11-2010, 10:32 AM
Audihas made a great many enhancements to the seven-speed S tronic -- which has superseded the multitronic -- for the A7 Sportback with front-wheel drive.
